A Simple but Effective Motivation Hack

Posted on: April 15, 2008

I’m not fond of doing dishes, but I dislike a messy kitchen even more.

If I’m feeling particularly unmotivated to clean up after a meal, I fill the tea kettle and set it to boil while I start on the dishes. I keep working on the job until the kettle boils, then I make the tea, then continue working until the tea has brewed.

I’m always amazed at how much I get done just in the time it takes to make a pot of tea! And what a difference it makes to start the day with a clean sink and countertop . . . yet another small step towards order, serenity and peace of mind.
